Project Overview

CV was engaged to deliver the design and construction of a major HV infrastructure upgrade at CSR Limited’s Coopers Plains manufacturing facility. The project involved the establishment of a new Energex LCC, integration of private HV infrastructure, installation of a new 11kV switchboard, two 2000kVA transformers, underground HV cable networks, protection systems and earthing infrastructure. By providing a fully integrated design and construct solution, CV successfully coordinated utility and private network requirements, delivering a safe, reliable and scalable power distribution system to support the site’s ongoing operational demands and future growth.

  • Industry Manufacturing Facilities
  • Client CSR Limited
  • Location Coopers Plains, QLD

Scope of Works

CV delivered a comprehensive HV design and construct solution encompassing Energex LCC works, private HV network design, installation of critical electrical infrastructure, and testing and commissioning activities. The project was designed to ensure the seamless integration of new and existing electrical assets while maintaining compliance with Energex requirements and industry standards.

Key deliverables:

  • Detailed Energex LCC design, including recovery of existing substation assets and installation of a new customer connection RMU.
  • Comprehensive private HV system design, including HV protection studies, earthing design, cable calculations, single-line diagrams, and secondary system design.
  • Coordination of HV integration with adjacent building, civil and LV electrical systems.
  • Supply and installation of approximately 550m of 240mm aluminium underground triplex cable connecting the new Energex connection infrastructure.
  • Supply and installation of earthing infrastructure, conduits and associated underground reticulation works.
  • Installation of a new Energex customer connection RMU within the elevated transformer yard.
  • Installation of two 2000kVA FR3 fluid-filled enhanced fire protection transformers.
  • Supply and installation of a new 11kV HV switchboard to facilitate connections to Energex infrastructure, transformers and metering equipment.
  • Testing, commissioning and energisation support for all HV equipment and associated systems.

Outcomes & Impact

  • Increased Network Capacity – Delivered a robust HV electrical infrastructure platform capable of supporting ongoing operational demands and future facility expansion.
  • Seamless Utility Integration – Successfully integrated private HV assets with Energex network infrastructure through a coordinated design and approval process.
  • Enhanced Reliability – Upgraded switchgear, transformers and protection systems to improve power distribution resilience across the site.
  • Improved Safety Performance – Incorporated modern earthing, protection and switching systems designed to meet current industry and utility standards.
  • Reduced Project Risk – Early procurement of critical transformer assets helped mitigate supply-chain constraints and support project delivery certainty.
  • Single Delivery Partner – Provided end-to-end management from detailed design through construction, testing and commissioning, reducing stakeholder interfaces and simplifying project execution.
